In this LTE lesson pupils develop classification by exploring the qualities of a hero. They read Faustin Charles and Michael Clarke’s book “The Selfish Crocodile” and through the character of the mouse consider heroism and our expectations of heroes.
An example of pupils in a Greenwich school ranking the different qualities the mouse shows and how their order changes during group discussion.
A transcript of a Year 2 lesson in a Greenwich school. At this stage, pupils have seen the front cover of the book. They are presented with the inside cover which displays many different animals and are asked to consider; “Who might the hero of the story be?”. After group discussion, pupils are providing whole class feedback.
